About LJ Andrews

LJ Andrews is a USA Today and internationally bestselling author of fantasy romance. She mystically brings to life worlds of dark Nordic and Viking myths bound by conflicts that bring together impassioned heroes and heroines.

In her non-author moments, she is courageously corralling her four children to the myriad of life activities that involves, along with spending time with her favorite hero, her husband. Add two high maintenance dogs and a sassy conure to the mix and that sums it up. LJ Andrews thrives spending time in the Rocky Mountains where she lives in Utah.

A note from LJ Andrews

Welcome to the world of all things LJ Andrews. I am a USA Today bestselling author. My recent release reached the top 10 in the entire kindle store. I am definitely a bookaholic, and if ever I am diving into my favorite pastime, it would be reading. Thank you for visiting my website, you too must be a peruser of all things books.

As a child, I would hide away in my closet with a book in hand to escape reality, including doing my chores. I have always loved words. I love to look at words, discover words, and research words. Words hold power. Growing up, I always had a love for animals and nature. I cut out any article in the newspaper about pets, dogs, cats, birds and kept them safely in an antique tin for my safe keeping to pursue all those beautiful words at my leisure, and to find ways to talk my parents into more pets.

I find the world of dark fantasy romance the most intriguing. I write that genre along with Nordic and Viking mythology and legend.

There is a grittiness to the history of the Norse Vikings, and that runs in my DNA, along with the fighting Scots. I dreamed of writing as a child. I was influenced with the love in literature and history by both sides of my family through my parents and grandparents. Honoring that passion fuels me.

My story of becoming LJ Andrews is a story of overcoming. Itโ€™s a story of hope. Itโ€™s a story of relentless determination. I first published as an Indie author in 2016. After many attempts, many naysayers,, and learning to quiet down the noise of doubt, and with unabated determination to be published, it happened.

I worked in the healthcare industry and have always held a soft spot for the elderly. But, deep down I knew there was more to my story. I had to write! We struggled along with minimal paying jobs, with many job changes between my husband and I. We were hanging on by our fingernails barely making ends meet. But my heart would not stop beating to the tune, โ€œYou must write!โ€ It was absolutely frightening to change my course and let go of a stable job, and dive full time into my dream of being an author. We were raising four children, trying to provide, and the doubts and fears were thundering heavy within me.

With a supportive husband and family, and me knowing that putting pen to paper was my calling, a whole new world opened. Believe me, at this point, being able to purchase paper towels was a luxury. The necessities of life were very humble and not ostentatious.

My goals were clear. They were not outrageous. They were stepping stones. One foot forward. Consistency and continuing to put my words onto paper has created a dream come true for me.

The journey of the Broken Kingdoms began with a Kylo Ren and Rey ship. I saw Episode 7 of Star Wars and the idea of the villain gets the girl clicked with me I couldn’t shake it.

What came of it was called ‘The Awakened’ series. A trilogy with a two book spin off with other characters. The series had no magic, it was more alternative history with a big dystopian vibe, but it was my most popular series for a bit. I decided to take a hiatus from publishing in 2019 and work on writing craft to become, what I hoped, was a better writer.

‘The Awakened’ series was so close to my heart, and I wanted to do it justice because the morally gray infatuation would not let me go. I unpublished that series and spent the next two years re-working the series into a new world with magic and fae and Norse Mythology. I come from Scandinavian roots, so how could I resist having a few Vikings in there.

The Broken Kingdoms Series was born, and in October 2021, I released Curse of Shadows and Thorns. Night of Masks and Knives, book 4 in the Broken Kingdoms, was technically the first book in the series written, but a gut feeling told me to hold that couple’s story for later.

The Broken Kingdoms series covers

Legion Grey and Elise Lysander became a mix of the old characters from the Awakened series, as well as Kase Eriksson and Malin Strom from Night of Masks and Knives.  The world expanded into something enormous. Side characters became main characters, villains won the girl, family was found even if they weren’t blood relatives.

As the Broken Kingdoms was being written, a new world began to shape. A world beneath the sea that still had fae and vicious characters, but it became a love story to my fascination with pirates.

The Ever Seas shaped alongside fae Vikings and even crossed over into the Broken Kingdoms series, so when it ended a new world was waiting to be explored in the Ever Seas with The Ever King. First released independently, The Ever King, The Ever Queen, and The Mist Thief have been re-published with all new bonus material through Penguin Random House. Nothing is so delightful as running into my favorite sea fae on the shelves at Target!

The fourth installment of this series, The Stolen Crown, will be published with my partners at Penguin Random House in 2026. There will be at least six books in this series and I am so excited to share them with you. To be among the first to hear about preorder dates and release news, please join my mailing list.

You do not have to read the Broken Kingdoms prior to The Ever King, but most readers found it enjoyable to recognize little cameos of their favorite BK characters in different scenes.

I never expected that first Kylo Ren and Rey ship to turn into this gigantic, ever- expanding world, but I am so grateful for all the readers who continue to go on this journey with me. The Broken Kingdom series has literally changed my life. It symbolizes a great deal of hard work, many broken pieces coming together, and the fact that determination and love will always win.

The Broken Kingdoms and Ever Seas series have numerous translation deals. ‘Curse of Shadows and Thorns‘ has recently released in French, Spanish and German.

I love to read! I love to travel. I want to wander the world. I love the mountains and live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Utah, and dream of owning a secluded cabin someday. I love to scare my mom with what color of hair I will show up with next (even in my thirties she likes to give her feedback on my hair.) I have become a collector of tattoos that are very significant to me, and they are starting to take shape from my stories.

My favorite books to read are dark โ€œromantasyโ€, classics, romance and historical fiction. Some of my favorite authors are: Holly Black, Rachel Gilig, Stacia Stark, Nisha J. Tuli, Claire Kingsley and Jane Austen. On a perfect day itโ€™s raining, I am curled up in my favorite chair, with a funny mug of my favorite hot beverage, reading under my warm blanket. Getting lost in other worlds, is one of the best adventures you can go on.

I have absolutely loved reader events and getting to meet so many amazing Darlings, so you can find me at these upcoming events. I would love to meet you there!
