A Note from LJ
Hello, my bookish friends,
I’m not sure if I should admit this, but I’ve been to Disneyland a lot and Pirates of the Caribbean is always the first ride. My love of yo, ho, yo, ho lives on, and as an author when I began exploring a world of fae, magic, sirens, and sea witches.
Welcome to the Ever Seas, where it’s Pirates vs. Vikings and our love interests are all a little villainous. The Ever King begins the series, and when I first indie published the book in 2023 (a spin off from my Broken Kingdoms series) I never imagined how my life would change. To now see the trad versions on bookshelves, is incredible.
Book four, The Stolen Crown, is finally setting sail this year. I can’t wait for you to read the banter-filled, utterly romantic story of Tait Heartwalker and Mira Sekundӓr. Their story has been years in the making, and the way it exploded with passion, healing, self-acceptance, and new darkness to face, was one of the most gratifying writing experiences of my career.
When it comes to Tait Heartwalker, our main man, I’ve been getting to know his character since he first stepped on the page in the Ever King. He’s grumpy and formidable, but fiercely loyal. There is so much that makes up this pirate. He’s deep and passionate, he feels enormously, and he will defend those he loves to brutal extremes if necessary. I think a feral, sunshine princess is the perfect storm to peel back those layers over his heart.
Mira holds a special place for me. She’s the friend we all deserve, a girl’s girl, but also a mirror into those of us who hesitate, who question our own abilities and try so hard not to show our insecurities to the rest of the world. To write a woman who is vibrant and outspoken to anyone on the outside, then to explore her own darkness, burdens, and broken pieces, was humbling and empowering with each word.
Tait and Mira heal each other in so many ways, and I adored writing every drop of their beautiful romance.
The Stolen Crown is perfect for dark fantasy romance readers who love atmospheric worlds, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, found family, fun magic systems, spice, and of course, a delicious pirate to call them, “Vicious.”
I hope you adore Tait, Mira, and the rest of the crew. Watch out for sea singers and meet your posts on deck. We’re setting sail.
Sincerely,
LJ

Meet the Pirate Crew
Melissa Roehrich
Melissa K. Roehrich is a New York Times, USA Today, and international best-selling dark fantasy romance author living her best life in the Middle-of-Nowhere, North Dakota. She resides on a hobby farm where she homeschools her three boys with her husband. They have four dogs, several barn cats, and chickens. When she’s not writing or reading, she’s probably sitting on her deck and snuggling her Border Collies, getting new ink from her tattoo therapist, or watching reruns of Schitt’s Creek while trying to convince her husband they need to add goats to the farm. She loves coffee and traveling and dreams of owning a dragon someday.
Fun fact: Melissa has a writing cottage just a four minute walk up the hill. It’s built into the side of a hill like a hobbit house, and it has been dubbed the ‘Witchy Writing Cottage.’ While the Border Collies aren’t allowed in our house, they are absolutely allowed in the writing cottage for all the snuggles and love.

Miranda Lyn
Miranda Lyn is an internationally recognized author of romantic fantasy whose stories have captivated readers around the world. She has spoken on industry panels across the globe, and her work has been featured in some of today’s most sought-after book boxes.
A viral Best of BookTok author, Miranda has sold thousands of books and reached millions of readers, earning top-ranking positions on Amazon’s bestseller charts for months at a time. Her novels are known for immersive worlds, emotionally charged storytelling, and unforgettable characters that linger long after the final page.
Readers can trust they’re in the hands of an author who consistently delivers high-quality, unputdownable fiction, and who understands exactly why we fall in love with stories that dare to go dark, romantic, and unforgettable.
Fun fact: I love interior decorating, and I approach it a lot like worldbuilding. I’m obsessed with how a room’s colors, textures, lighting, and little details can tell you who lives there before they ever say a word. I definitely bring that same instinct into my fantasy writing, where I love creating spaces that feel like you could actually step inside them.

Jamie Applegate Hunter
I love writing unhinged romance, but I hate writing bios.
Fun fact: Jamie is ordained, and in her 20’s she would officiate weddings for free strangers who could not afford an officiant. She has also officiated a few friends’ weddings.

Cortney L. Winn
Cortney L. Winn’s debut novel, Vesselless has been translated into seven languages and voted best of BookTok. Living in Utah with her husband and two boys, Cortney has a degree in business and a passion for the fantasy and romance genres. She loves writing in the early morning and reading late into the evening, with a coffee or Diet Coke close by.
Fun fact: I used to be a wedding cake artist—one of my cakes was even featured in a bridal magazine. Diet Coke is my favorite drink and black is my favorite color.

Caty Rogan
Caty Rogan is the NYT, USA Today, and Sunday Times bestselling author of feminine rage romantasy. Caty wrote her first story at five (with the help of her mom), grounded in the belief that the Power Rangers were the villains. She later became an award-winning journalist, chasing stories and adventure across the globe. Now, she writes the writes the kind of books she loved to read on those long-haul flights, featuring feminine rage and he-falls-first heroes. When she’s not writing, she’s probably trying (and failing) to keep up with her two boss-girl daughters. She survives on caffeine and cheesy popcorn.
Fun fact: Doritos are my favorite snack, and I’ve pulled 7Gs in a F-16 Thunderbird!
